Kana’s eyes opened slowly, and immediately slammed shut again. She groaned inwardly. Her father must have come and opened her curtains. It was far too bright in her room now. Her eyes couldn’t handle it. Slowly, she opened them. She slid out of bed and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes.
This was it. Her big day. She smiled to herself, and walked over to her closet. Opening it, she sifted through the many articles of clothing until she found what she was looking for; a tight fitted black corset-like top, and a pair of short denim shorts. She got dressed quickly, and parked herself on the stool in front of her vanity.
Staring at herself in the mirror, she had too laugh.
“Worst bed head ever.” She laughed, picking up her brush and running it through her soft red-orange hair.
After that was done, she debated on how to do her hair. After ten minutes of this, she decided to screw it and just keep it down. Checking herself in the mirror, making sure she looked satisfactory, she noticed a pokeball lying on the floor, open. Groaning, she spun around and picked it up.
“Buzz!” She yelled, tossing the pokeball in the air in annoyance.
She quickly checked her bag for the remaining pokemon. “Terran, Corona… Good, it was only Buzz.”
Kana picked up her bag and slug it over her shoulder.
“When I find you, Buzz, you will be the sorriest Elekid in all of Karro!” She cried, exiting her room and slamming the door behind her.
She made her way down the stairs, and entered the kitchen. The first thing she noticed was not the rare smell of her father’s cooking, but the sight of an Elekid sitting at the kitchen table, munching on what she assumed was probably her breakfast.
“Buzz, how many times have I told you!? Don’t just leave like that!” She said, hitting the pokemon on the top of the head lightly, and sitting down in the chair beside it.
“Kiiiddd~” It said, smirking slyly.
Kana ignored her pokemon, and turned towards her father, who had just walked in the kitchen.
“You made breakfast, Daddy?”
The man just nodded, without looking at his daughter.
This didn’t phase Kana in the least. “That’s odd, you never cook.”
“It’s a special day.” He grunted, still not looking at Kana.
Kana was silent. She got a plate, and piled a few pancakes onto it, and sat back down. Her father took the seat farthest from his daughter, and propped the newspaper infront of his face. They ate in silence, until Kana was done and pushed her plate away.
She got up from the table, and put her plate in the sink. Spinning around, she addressed her father.
“Well… I should leave now…”
“Goodbye.” Was his response.
Kana bit her lip, and looked away, willing the tears not to fall. She was used to this behavior. She had never once heard her father say that he loved her. But even though she was used to it, it still hurt. She was leaving, for who knew how long. Years possibly, and he didn’t even care… Hell, he was probably glad I’m leaving, she thought bitterly.
“...Bye Daddy. Love you...” She said, as she left the kitchen and headed for the front door. Once at the front door, she slipped on her black and red running shoes. She waited a couple minutes, to see if her father would come out of the kitchen and wish her luck, but after a while it became evident that he was not coming.
She reached into her backpack and pulled out Buzz’s pokeball. “Return.” She said, as the pokeball glowed, and the Elekid disappeared.
With one last fleeting look towards the kitchen, she sighed, and left the house, beginning her adventure.
